BACKGROUND: Since 2001, the Potomac Conservancy, in partnership with the National Park Service’s C&O Canal National Historical Park, has been restoring historic Lockhouse 8 into a hands-on educational River Center.  It will offer information about the ecology of the Potomac River, the history of the C&O Canal, and ways that individuals can become involved to help protect these special resources.  We hope that the NCR Regional Director can come to the Lockhouse for this special celebration, which marks completion of the restoration and the formal opening of the Lockhouse 8 River Center to the public.  Since 1993, the Potomac Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) organization, has been protecting the health, beauty, and enjoyment of the Potomac River and its tributaries.
